Outreach Support Staff
Hi! My name is Crystal. I graduated from VCU with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in May 2017. Prior to graduating, I was the President and Team Leader for the pilot medical outreach team traveling to Vietnam. I hope to help students around the globe build team skills and leadership. In my spare time, I enjoy trying new things and going to concerts. I’m excited to see where this opportunity takes me!
Hello! I’m Estephani, I’m from Cusco and I’m a jewelry designer and maker. I firmly believe that the world is full of good people and if everyone comes together they can change the world, and VAW is proof of this. I started at VAW almost 2 years ago as an Outreach Assitant at the Cusco, Peru site and now I will be joining the VAW Global team as a Team Development Coordinator.
During my life, I always try to balance humanitarian activity and any other work I have been doing. VAW allows me do this; on the way, it has allowed me to help people in ways I could not have done alone. These days, I am luck enough to share my time doing the things that I love the most: traveling, designing and making jewelry, and helping volunteers to help those who need it most.
Iván Pinto-Sherlock is from Santiago, Chile. He first officially became involved with Volunteers Around the World in 2014, when he helped set up the site in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Iván works with VAW to develop teams on campus and prepare them for their Outreach trips, helps found new Outreach sites and in clinics as a translator and rotating Site Manager.
Iván studied Biology with an emphasis in Natural Resources at the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile. Additionally, Iván is interested in Public Health. In his free time, Iván enjoys running, watching fútbol, and traveling.
Having grown up in Chile and seeing how important access (or lack thereof) to health care is, Iván is very excited to be part of Volunteers Around the World’s mission to bring medical care, dental care and education to underserved communities around the world.
Hi, my name is Kylie and I’m a senior at Loyola University Chicago. I have been involved with VAW for three years now volunteering in Albania followed by transitioning to become the Team Leader of the Chicago chapter. Since then, I have been working to grow the chapter while having the chance to lead teams to Cambodia and Peru. I’m excited to continue working with VAW as a TDC to share the organization with even more volunteers and universities.
I have a passion for global health and in particular healthcare for underserved populations and women. I hope to utilize all of my experiences including those with VAW to one day have my own career to improve healthcare and education standards for women around the world. In the mean time, I’m looking forward to continuing my education, traveling to more countries, and meeting new people for good food!
Hi! My name is Malieka. I recently graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. in Biology. May graduated this past May from USC, and is currently living and working in Southern California.
Michelle is the web and product designer for Volunteers Around the World and a myriad other companies. She designed the beautiful website you are currently enjoying, and has developed many other creative projects for VAW including flyers, banners and cards.
Hello there, I’m Noelia! I’m an anthropologist and photographer from Lima, Peru. A while ago, I moved to Cusco looking for new experiences and a change of scenery and I couldn’t have asked for anything better than what I had. By lucky chance, I ended up as an Outreach Assistant at VAW Peru in Cusco and it changed my life!
I learned a lot about working with a humanitarian organization, working with people from other countries and cultures, and, most importantly, helping people that are in need for a bit of extra aid with health care. Undoubtedly, working with VAW and all the volunteers, doctors, dentists and teammates has been a unique experience in my life and I hope to help others have the same experience!!
Hello there! My name is Nusrat but I prefer to be called Nusi (New-See). I am currently pursuing my Masters in Counseling in Clinical Psychology. My goal is to eventually get a Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D) in the future and work in student affairs and as a Clinical Psychologist.
I am a devoted humanitarian and take advantage of every opportunity I get to give back to the community and help people in need. I attended SUNY Old Westbury’s first VAW trip to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2014. The trip was the most unforgettable experience. Following that year I became the Team Leader of Old Westbury in 2015 and my team and I returned to DR in the summer of 2016. I enjoyed being a part of VAW as both a volunteer and a Team Leader and now I am exited to share my experience by passing it on to future Team Leaders and volunteers.
Hello! My name is Resham Gehani and I am a current Graduate Student, pursuing my Masters in Healthcare Administration. I graduated from The University of Georgia in May of 2017 with my Bachelors of Science in Biology. I started the Dental Outreach Chapter at UGA and was the Team Leader for a trip to Peru in 2016 and Dominican Republic in 2017.
Working with Volunteers Around the World was the highlight of my undergraduate career and I am so glad to still be working with this organization. I am currently the Team Development Coordinator for multiple teams and I thoroughly enjoy working with all my Team Leaders and helping them make a difference in the world. I plan to stay involved with this organization and the healthcare field in the future because I am extremely passionate about helping others and making a difference.
Shandra currently lives in Orlando, FL and is originally from North Carolina. She loves the mountains! She also enjoys photography, especially outdoor photos. She has one daughter who loves to play softball and has found a way to play year-round rather than only in the spring.
Shandra graduated with business administration degrees from Florida Southern College and University of North Carolina (MBA). She is a member at Real Life Christian Church and is part of the children’s ministry there. She previously worked at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Orlando, FL.
To say I am a child of the South is an understatement. I was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama; lived in East Tennessee for 23 years, where we raised our son; and, moved to South Carolina in 2015 with a new opportunity for my husband.
I went to Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a major in Music Education. I did not graduate, however, had some wonderful experiences, including studying under Bob Burrows, who, at that time, was a writer/publisher of Christian Church music.
I have worked in the accounting/administrative field for most of my career. I worked for the Alabama Department of Revenue for eight years as a Department Secretary under the Director of all the Revenue Field Offices in Alabama; and then, the Alabama Department of Agriculture as a Procurement Officer for eight years. I left the Alabama Department of Agriculture to move our family to East Tennessee.
I worked for Cherokee Textiles as the Secretary for all Administrative Staff except for the President of the company; worked in the University of Tennessee Financial Aid Office, Co-owned a business with my husband, and worked as the Office Manager/Business Manager for KJ Development for eleven years. After I left KJ Development, I worked as the Accounting Assistant for the CFO of BrakeQuip, LLC based in Alcoa, Tennessee. I left BrakeQuip to follow my husband with his job opportunities. I went to work for Genesis Healthcare as a Regional ROC (Rehab Office Coordinator) which included creating/maintaining spreadsheets, weekly auditing of reports and other duties for 93 facilities within our Region. During this time, I spent nine weeks in Clemson, South Carolina as an Interim Director of Rehab while the Director was on maternity leave. I traveled a good bit during my career with Genesis Healthcare but was laid off in January 2016 when Genesis had company-wide layoffs.
I was blessed to be hired by VAW in February 2016 as the Office Manager and was asked to take on the HR duties in March. My policy has always been that my door is always open and I will do whatever I can to help our people out. If I don’t know an answer, I will make sure I get the answer for them.
Hi! My name is Yuantong (Rachel) Li and I am a freshman at University of Pittsburgh studying Biological Sciences on pre-dental track. I am from Beijing, China. I am a member of Dental Science Club at Pitt and I love the activities that they provide us. I learned about VAW through the Pitt Dental Club.
I am excited to go on trips with VAW as well as organizing a team of Chinese students to the countries in need of medical and dental outreach. I became passionate about doing volunteering abroad since I last volunteered in Sri Lanka. I want to use my skill of speaking both Mandarin and English to accomplish more and I am thankful that VAW provides me this opportunity!
